Troy Sybert

FRANKLIN, TN.  June 2, 2015. Troy Sybert, MD, MPH, has been appointed to the Tennessee Health Information Committee (THIC). His appointment is for a one-year term between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016, according to Darin J. Gordon, Deputy Commissioner of the Division of Health Care Finance and Administration and Director of the Bureau of TennCare.

Sybert is Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Capella Healthcare.

The THIC is a 20-member committee, including eight state officials serving as ex officio members and 12 appointed individuals representing various stakeholder groups. Dr. Sybert is representing physicians. The THIC develops policies for the use and reporting of data in the All Payer Claims Database (APCD), specifically reports regarding the quality, effectiveness or cost of health care services. The THIC also makes recommendations regarding data submission, data integrity and accuracy, and data security and legal compliance issues related to the APCD.

Joining Capella in September of 2014, Sybert has senior leadership responsibility for all quality and service excellence initiatives. He also facilitates the work of Capella’s National Physician Leadership Group, ensuring that physician leaders are continuously involved in shaping the company’s vision and future strategies.

Sybert earned a medical degree from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, completing a combined internship and residency in internal medicine and general preventive medicine. He was then selected for a fellowship in Hospital Medicine at Mayo Clinic. He also completed a master’s degree in public health at University of Texas Medical Branch while achieving certification in Six Sigma/Lean Thinking from the American Society for Quality.

Prior to joining Capella, Troy had served as Chief Quality and Medical Information Officer at Wellmont Health System in Kingsport as well as Chief Medical Officer for University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX for four years.
