Peter A. Hofstetter named CEO for Willamette Valley Medical Center – Experienced CEO is relocating from New Mexico

June 6, 2014

Peter A. Hofstetter, FACHE

McMinnville, OR.  June 6, 2014.  Peter A. Hofstetter, FACHE, has been named Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Willamette Valley Medical Center (WVMC), effective August 1, according to a joint statement issued today by the hospital’s Board of Trustees and Capella Healthcare, with which WVMC is affiliated.

Hofstetter has more than 30 years of experience as a hospital CEO, and has earned Fellow status in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).

Hofstetter is coming from Holy Cross Hospital in Taos, NM, where he has been CEO since 2009. Prior to that, he served as CEO for 15 years at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, VT. He also served as CEO for six years at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntington, PA, and as CEO/Administrator for four years at Notre Dame Hospital in Central Falls, RI.

“After an exhaustive nationwide search, we are confident that Peter is the right leader to continue Willamette Valley Medical Center’s outstanding record of achievement,” said Mark Medley, SVP, President-Hospital Operations, for Capella. “His career has demonstrated that he is an outstanding leader, and we believe he will be great fit for the community.  His proven track record in leading successful hospitals and in developing strong relationships with employees and physicians will be vital to his success.”

Active in a number of professional organizations, Hofstetter has served the ACHE on the Regents Advisory Council in both New Mexico and Vermont, receiving the ACHE Regents Award in 2012. He is also active in the American Hospital Association, where he has served on the Governing Council for Small and Rural Hospitals since 2011. Additionally, he has held numerous leadership roles with various state hospital associations, including the New Mexico Hospital Association, which he currently serves as a Board member and as Secretary-Treasurer, and the Vermont Association of Hospitals and Health Systems, which he served as president from 2003-05.

He has also served in a variety of leadership roles within the communities where he has lived, including with the local Chambers of Commerce, United Way, and economic development organizations.

Hofstetter earned a bachelor’s degree in biology / hospital administration and a master’s degree in public administration in healthcare, both from The American University in Washington DC.

He and his wife Christy have two grown daughters, Genevieve and Sara.  He enjoys skiing, golf, hiking, riding his motorcycle, and NASCAR racing.

“Willamette Valley Medical Center is a great organization as shown by their status in the healthcare world,” Hofstetter said.  “Their clinical scores and other national recognitions make it a very desirable organization to be a part of.  That was easily confirmed when I got to meet the managers, Board members and medical staff leadership. McMinnville is a beautiful area and the bonus for us is that our daughter Genevieve, who is about to be married, lives in Portland.  Everything about the opportunity just seemed right.”

Rosemari Davis, former long-time CEO has been serving as interim CEO since last summer when Dan Ordyna left.
