Located on the left bank of Calfkiller River, in a valley at the foot of Cumberland Mountain, the community of Sparta is a land of green valleys, rolling rivers and majestic hills.

The Hospital
White County Community Hospital (WCCH), a 60-bed facility, is accredited by The Joint Commission, and certified by the American Heart Association as a “Get with the Guidelines” hospital. The facility offers a full range of medical services, including 24- hour Emergency Care, Intensive Care, Medical/Surgical Care, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, GYN, and a Geriatric Psych Unit. Diagnostic Imaging services include X-ray, CT, Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine. Rehabilitation services include Physical and Occupational Therapy and Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab. WCCH remains committed to providing quality, patient-centered care, strong customer service, and wellness activities in the community.

The Community
Located near I-40, Sparta enjoys easy access to Nashville, Cookeville and Knoxville, Tennessee. The city serves as the seat of government and the commercial center for White County. Opportunities for higher education are available at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville and Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.

Known as Bluegrass USA, Sparta is the proud hometown of Lester Flatt of the bluegrass music legends Flatt & Scruggs. Sparta’s historic downtown area features charming restaurants and vintage shops, including antiques and fine furnishings along Liberty Square. Here you’ll also find the Lester Flatt Memorial, Calfkiller River Park and Trail and the Oldham Theater, a classic movie house built in the 1930s and now used as a Welcome Center. Sparta is also home of the Rock House Shrine, a famous stage coach stop on the early American frontier. Presidents Andrew Jackson and James K. Polk stopped here on their way to and from Washington D.C.

Recreation
The scenic beauty of mountains and lakes of the Cumberland Valley and Plateau provide year-round recreational opportunities. The Bridgestone/Firestone Centennial Wilderness is a national treasure. Called “The Grand Canyon of the Cumberlands,” this 10,000-acre wildlife area features nine waterfalls as well as hiking, bird-watching, primitive camping, spelunking, hunting, fishing, canoeing and Class 5 kayaking. Center Hill Lake, located about 15 miles west of Sparta, provides a multitude of opportunities for water sports, especially fishing. Rock Island State Park, located on the Caney Fork River, features the impressive 80-foot Twin Falls, and is a favorite destination for kayakers, including the U.S. Freestyle Kayak Team. Burgess Falls State Park and Natural Area features a spectacular 130-foot waterfall, surrounded by sheer bluffs, narrow ridges and abundant mixed forest. The Riverwatch Golf Club features Tennessee’s first 18-hole championship golf course with a 6,900-yard layout featuring dramatic elevation changes on Center Hill Lake.
