At Capella Healthcare, our senior leaders possess an in-depth knowledge of the health care industry. They are nationally recognized leaders with proven track records in operating highly successful hospitals of all sizes and market types – from large tertiary teaching hospitals in metropolitan markets to small community hospitals in rural markets. In fact, the Senior Leadership Team collectively has more than 150 years of hospital operations experience in more than 200 hospitals in 30 states. Our leaders are intimately familiar with every aspect of hospital operations. And, in fact, the Company’s founding partners remain its leaders to this day.

Daniel S. “Dan” Slipkovich
Co-Founder, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Chief Executive Officer
A co-founder of the Company, Dan serves as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. With over 30 years of hospital experience, he is a nationally recognized leader within the healthcare industry. He has led hospitals across the country of varying sizes and scopes – from small, rural facilities to large, urban academic medical centers.
A member of the Board of Governors for the Federation of American Hospitals, which represents over 1,100 hospitals, Dan also serves on the organization’s Audit, Rural Healthcare, and Legislative committees. Through his involvement with the FAH as well as the American Hospital Association and the Nashville Health Care Council, he is an active contributor to the national discussions that shape the industry’s future. In 2009, he was named to Modern Healthcare’s list of “Top 100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare.”

James “Tom” Anderson
Co-Founder, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors
As a co-founder of the company, Tom serves as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors. With more than 30 years of hospital experience, he previously served as the Senior Vice President of Acquisitions and Development for Province Healthcare from 1998-2005. During this time he developed growth strategies, managed the development of Province’s national market presence, and closed the transactions to acquire 18 hospitals.

Michael “Mike” Wiechart
Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer
As Chief Operating Officer for Capella, Mike leads all of Capella’s operations, including hospital operations, quality improvement, supply chain, revenue cycle, managed care operations, and labor productivity initiatives. He is also involved in merger and acquisition activities.

Denise W. Warren
Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
Denise Wilder Warren, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, has more than 25 years of diverse financial experience. In 2009 she was honored as “CFO of the Year” in the category of large, private companies by the Nashville Business Journal in recognition of her leadership at Capella. Nashville Medical News named her to the 2011 class of “Women to Watch.”

Neil W. Kunkel
Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary
Joining Capella in October of 2011, Neil serves as General Counsel and Secretary of the Board. He has more than 20 years of experience in the practice of law, fifteen of those in health care.
Before joining Capella, he was Vice-President and Associate General Counsel for LifePoint Hospitals, which he joined in 1998 prior to its spin-off from HCA in 1999. Prior to that, he was affiliated with HCA, where he served as Group Operations Counsel then as Managing Counsel.

Andrew “Andy” Slusser
Senior Vice President, Acquisitions and Development
Andy serves as Senior Vice President of Acquisitions and Development and is a founding member of the executive team of the company. He has over 28 years of hospital operations, corporate finance and development experience. He leads the Company’s efforts to partner with local communities to improve healthcare services by delivering more capital to expand services, recruit more physicians to serve the community and provide a new tax base to the local governments.

Erik Swensson, MD, FACS
Senior Vice President, Chief Medical Officer
With more than 25 years as a practicing physician and significant leadership experience, Dr. Swensson provides leadership for affiliated hospitals’ quality and service excellence initiatives as well as for on-going communication with medical staff members. He also has senior leadership responsibility for facilitating the work of Capella’s National Physician Leadership Group, ensuring that physician leaders from across the company are continuously involved in shaping the company’s vision and future strategies.
